In most cases in India, at the time of adoption or buying a dog, parents usually do not receive the appropriate registration paper-work or micro-chip.
Often it is the local municipal authority that takes care of such registrations
This article should help you with how’s and why’s.

Why should I get my pet registered:

1. In most parts of India, registration and micro-chips have become a mandate by the government / municipal authorities. It helps authorities to distinguish between vaccinated and non-vaccinated dogs. In the case of disease outbreak such as rabies or leptospirosis, your dog will be considered as a non-carrier of these diseases.

2. Registration legally allows your dog to urinate in open areas around your locality.

3. In case your dog is lost/disputed or stolen, registration increases the odds of finding your dog. It also helps prove the ownership of the pooch.

4. In case your dog bites someone, it is the stamp proof that your dog is fully vaccinated hence you can avoid police complaints/lawsuits.

What is a microchip

It is a permanent electronic device (the chip – works on RFID) usually very small in size (in the size of wheat grain) that is injected under the outer skin of the dog following a painless and quick method by a licensed Vet.

Where do I get my dog registered?

Well, you can get him/her registered from KCI (Kennel Club of India) or you can get the registration done from local municipal authority.
