It is a well-known fact that Coronavirus (CoV) a family of RNA viruses has emerged from an animal source and is spreading from person-to-person across the globe.
Up until today, there are no reports or legitimate sources claiming pets or other animals have become sick with COVID-19.

Center for disease control & prevention (CDC) had released the statement ” At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19. However, since animals can spread other diseases to people, it’s always a good idea to wash your hands after being around animals.” CDC further states a bizarre finding that “The first case of an animal testing positive for the virus in the United States was a tiger that had a respiratory illness at a zoo in New York City.”

According to the World organization for Animal Health (WOAH), “There is no scientific evidence to suggest the source of this virus or the route of transmission to human beings”

However, It is a good idea to maintain healthy habits around the pets, such as washing your hands and maintaining good pet hygiene. At this time there is no need and no facility as such available for testing animals of COVID-19 in India.

Below are the few pointers that pet parent should keep in mind amid this crisis:

1. Treat pets as yet another human member of your family and do not allow the interaction with people outside the household.

2. Walk your dog with a leash and muzzle on and try to maintain 6 feet distance all the time from other animals and humans.

3. Take the stairs if you can instead of the elevator if and whenever possible.

4. Avoid dog parks and public places.

5. If you feel sick, let other members of your family take care of the Pet. Avoid contact with your pet including sharing food/bed, kissing, petting, etc.

Since you must have some extra time with your dog during the lockdown, you may be able to teach even an old dog some new tricks 🙂
Stay at home. Stay safe
